The first installment of the movie "Atlas Shrugged" opens in theaters April 15, 2011. The tea party is thrilled. Most of the rest of us should be wary.
OBJECTIVISM
The link associated with Objectivism will take you to The Atlas Society. There one may learn about Ayn Rand and why the tea party, I cannot bring myself to capitalize those words, is so enamored of the philosophy and now the film.
My thoughts are:
Objectivism is anarchy wrapped in the American flag. This is curious as the flag represents, for me, a people banded together for the common good via a shared governance. Government is anathema to Objectivism.
Rational Self Interest is a fatally flawed concept that denies the reality of human desire over simple need. The majority of individuals want more than they have and are willing to have what they want at the expense of others. The end result is that an individual may very well consume so many resources that there are no resources remaining on which to survive. Clearly not a set of actions in the individuals Rational Self Interest.
